SOUTH ISLAND GEOLOGICAL TOURS

SIGNIFICANT AND INTERESTING GEOLOGICAL SITES IN SOUTH ISLAND

The South Island provides an amazing range of geological and landform features with some excellent example sites.  The sites examine intraplate volcanic rocks, an active plate boundary, present and historical gold mining, the metamorphic and igneous rocks which make up the foundations of the island and the youthful rocks and sediments which cover the older rocks. Glaciers and their landforms, basin and range topography, examples of recent uplift and dramatic terracing make the island visually exciting.
